In August, the average concentration of PM2.5 in 339 prefectural-level and above cities nationwide was 17 micrograms per cubic meter, flat year-on-year; the average concentration of PM10 was 31 micrograms per cubic meter, a year-on-year decrease of 3.1%; the average concentration of O3 was 142 micrograms per cubic meter, a year-on-year increase of 1.4%; the average concentration of SO2 was 7 micrograms per cubic meter, flat year-on-year; the average concentration of NO2 was 13 micrograms per cubic meter which was down 7.1% year-on-year; and the average concentration of CO was 0.7 mg/m3, flat year-on-year.
In August, the average proportion of good air quality days in 339 prefectural-level and above cities nationwide was 90.1%, up 0.6 percentage points year-on-year; the average proportion of heavily and above polluted days was 0.2%, down 0.1 percentage points year-on-year; and the average proportion of exceeding the standard days caused by sand and dust weather was 0.9%, of which the proportion of heavily and above polluted days was 0.2%.

List of Top 20 and Bottom 20 Cities in Air Quality Ranking of 168 Key Cities in August 2024
In August, among the 168 key cities, the top 20 cities with better air quality were, in order, Haikou, Lhasa, Zhuhai, Huangshan, Guiyang, Zhangjiakou, Zhoushan, Xinyang, Chaoyang, Changchun, Lu'an, Nanning, Zhongshan, Yichun, Lishui, Suizhou, Xiamen, Zhumadian, Xuancheng, and Jiangmen City; and the bottom 20 cities with worse air quality were, in order, Yibin, Zibo, Taiyuan, Leshan, Meishan, Neijiang, and Zigong, Xianyang, Xi'an, Chengdu, Changzhou, Xinzhou, Ziyang, Dongguan, Lanzhou, Zhenjiang, Yangzhou, Yangquan, Luliang and Nanchong.
In August, among the 168 key cities, the top 20 cities with lower PM2.5 concentrations were, in order, Lhasa, Zhangjiakou, Haikou, Zhuhai, Guiyang, Harbin, Huangshan, Changchun, Chengde, Nantong, Urumqi, Shenzhen, Hohhot, Zhoushan, Zhongshan, Lishui, Qingdao, Baotou, Lianyungang, and Datong; and the bottom 20 cities with higher PM2.5 concentrations were, in order, Leshan, Neijiang, Yibin, Zigong, Nanchong, Xinzhou, Yangquan, Lvliang, and Nanchong. , Nanchong, Xinzhou, Luzhou, Tangshan, Ziyang, Mianyang, Ya'an, Chengdu, Xuzhou, Zhenjiang, Tianjin, Yinchuan, Meishan, Shaoxing, Suzhou and Zibo.
